Christmas in London

Christmas in London pops up pretty quickly and I personally love it. After an outstandingly hot summer I think we're all ready for a bit of cozying up and crisp winter air. This post outlines my favorite Christmas activities in the big city as there's so much on offer and a lot of these aren't too expensive either.

The Winter Forest at Broadgate

Tucked away behind Liverpool Street station, this winter forest is the perfect pine scented Christmas activity. Expect to be surrounded by Christmas trees and indulge in mulled wine, rum cocktails and blankets. I went last year after coming back from Norwich and it was the perfect welcome back into the city.

Skylight London

Based in Tobacco Dock, this winter oasis is perfect for those looking for a winter rooftop. With an ice rink, ice hockey, street food and a killer view of the city, Skylight is an incredibly impressive and unique evening out.

Lights, lights and more lights

One of the most magical things about Christmas in London is the lights. Head to Carnaby street to find the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody, or Regent street to find angels. Wherever you look there is something twinkling, but the more central areas certainly have the most impressive lights.

The John Lewis winter rooftop in Oxford Street

This cosmopolitan gem is tucked away on top of Oxford Street's John Lewis. In partnership with Sipsmith gin, you can expect to find hot G&Ts and sloe gin on this magical rooftop in the city's shopping oasis.

The Natural History Museum

For one of the most beautiful buildings and an impressive ice rink, head to The Natural History Museum for a Hogwort-esq experience. Not only is there the ice rink with mulled wine served on the side, but the museum itself is an incredible place to visit.

Harrods and Fortnum and Mason

I definitely don't have the money to spend at either of these places, however during the Christmas period they are so worth visiting. Immerse yourself in the luxurious displays of both and if you can afford it indulge in their fantastic products.

Obviously there are plenty of other activities to do during the Christmas period, but these are some of my highlights and are the perfect way to make you feel merry.

Chilli Con Carne

I love Chilli Con Carne, for me it's one of the ultimate comfort foods for when I'm feeling blue at Uni. It's really easy to make and doesn't cost too much either and you can get really creative with how you make it. Ingredients:  -1 pack of beef mince meat - 2 white onions - 4 cloves of garlic - 1 carton of passata  - 1 tin of red kidney beans - salt and pepper - garlic powder - smoked paprika - regular paprika - ceyane pepper - cumin powder - one cube of beef stock - red wine  Side options:  - avocado - red onion - fresh coriander - cheddar cheese - sour cream Method:  - Start by chopping your onions and put them in a frying pan on a low heat. Mince the garlic and add in.  - When the onions have softened add the mince meat and put some salt and pepper on it.  - Once the meat is cooked chuck the passata in and start to season with the garlic powder, ceyane pepper, cumin, paprika and a little bit of s...

Recipe of the week: 5 less obvious essential ingredients

5 less obvious essential ingredients Rather than doing a recipe of the week this week I've decided to write a list of five ingredients that I think are absolute essentials and that aren't the classic salt, pepper or garlic! I think when cooking it's good to have an understanding of what flavors you really like and for those who are less confident it can be handy knowing about some other ingredients that are out there. So at number one we have garlic powder In my eyes this is an absolute must for the cupboard. It's cheap and you can buy it in big bags so you'll be stocked up or a while. I love this ingredient as it gives a lovely garlicky depth to sauces, almost a bit like stock but without the saltiness. I typically use this when I make curries, chilli con carne or garlic mayo. Sometimes it's just the thing that's missing. Two:  Cayenne Pepper For all spice lovers, this ingredient is your friend. Make sure you taste as you go along as it pack...
