A Homage to Creative Women

"women felt strong enough and powerful enough to speak up and share their personal stories, each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories we tell and this year we became the story" - Oprah Winfrey

Every time I watch Oprah Winfrey's Golden Globes speech it sends a shiver down my spine, it reaches my very core and reaffirms all of my feminist beliefs and love for the women around me.
I was having dinner with some of my best girlfriends last week and we were all discussing our career paths. I found this such a heartwarming and positive discussion as we all rejoiced in the fact that we all wanted to do something creative and meaningful.

Amber teaches sex education and empowers adults and young people constantly.
Jessie works in public relations and we hope to write a book together in the future.
Izzy is a photographer who aims to smash the art world and has her own exhibition coming up.
Ella aims to go into events, build up the most impressive experience and one day own her own pub.
I hope to get into journalism and continue writing about stuff that I'm passionate about and eventually write the book with Jess.

This post is basically a homage to these girls, all the creative women I know and all the creative women in the world.
It's so vital that we live in a world that has women at the forefront of these industries so that they have influence, platforms for expression and a way to educate future generations on what matters.

I think it's quite brave to put yourself out there and if we have more women doing it others will hopefully feel encouraged to do the same.
By showing young people female artists, writers, public speakers etc it becomes normalized that women can take on these successful and creative roles.
It also sets up the path for young girls to have the courage to do these things themselves and to see a society where equality doesn't have to be far from reach.

So, to all the females who have made a creative contribution I thank you for making the world more accessible to women.

5 Cheese Shops Every Cheese-a-holic should head to

As someone who is obsessed with cheese I have spent a fair amount of time sussing out London's most fabulous cheese mongers. There are so many to bring up, but I thought I would go with the five that I return to most frequently. So at number 1: Paxton and Whitfield. Dating back to the 1700s, Paxton and Whitfield is London's oldest cheese shop and stocks amazing cheeses from around the world. I come here annually to buy cheese for Christmas day, and I am unashamed to admit it's probably one of my favorite expeditions of the year. They serve something for everyone from creamy goats cheese to smack you in the face blues. The range is extensive and the staff are happy to help you pick the perfect cheeses to match your pallet and the occasion. Number 2: La Fromagerie. Based in Highbury and Mayfair this cheese shop holds an authentic feel and is the first experience I'd had of a cheese shop. I go to the one in Highbury and Islington as it's local to me and I never...

My Birthday Weekend in Brighton

Luckily for me I have an incredible best friend who was thoughtful and lovely enough to take me away to Brighton for the weekend before my birthday.  I have to admit, I tend to be pretty sceptical of leaving London as I only just moved back and am having a blast. However this weekend blew me away and taught me that it's good to have a break from the big city sometimes.   The main event of our trip was going for a tea for two, something that I never really thought would be offered gluten free yet my friend, Amber, managed to find an incredible coeliac friendly one.  We went to a vegetarian restaurant called Terre De Terre which is a few yards from the sea front. The ambience of the restaurant was lovely and they seated us outside under a golden yellow sun shader. We requested the gluten free tea for two which is 100% coeliac friendly and comes with one savoury plate, three sweet tiers, a glass of prosecco and a tea all for £30.  I cannot begin ...

Chilli Con Carne

I love Chilli Con Carne, for me it's one of the ultimate comfort foods for when I'm feeling blue at Uni. It's really easy to make and doesn't cost too much either and you can get really creative with how you make it. Ingredients:  -1 pack of beef mince meat - 2 white onions - 4 cloves of garlic - 1 carton of passata  - 1 tin of red kidney beans - salt and pepper - garlic powder - smoked paprika - regular paprika - ceyane pepper - cumin powder - one cube of beef stock - red wine  Side options:  - avocado - red onion - fresh coriander - cheddar cheese - sour cream Method:  - Start by chopping your onions and put them in a frying pan on a low heat. Mince the garlic and add in.  - When the onions have softened add the mince meat and put some salt and pepper on it.  - Once the meat is cooked chuck the passata in and start to season with the garlic powder, ceyane pepper, cumin, paprika and a little bit of s...
