The Best of Kings Cross for less than £20

As one of London's busiest hubs its unsurprising that there's so much to do in Kings Cross. More recently I keep ending up here and think it's a really busy and bubbly part of North West London that's worth spending some time in, and what could be better than doing it for under £20?
Since I'm a student i'm always on the look out for free/thrifty things to do in London and excusing travel it's not that hard to find. So if you happen to find yourself in Kings Cross and want to explore it then keep reading.

1) Get cultured. Luckily, Kings Cross is home to both the British Library and the Welcome Collection. Both have free admission to the majority of exhibitions and are each in their own right historical gems.
The Welcome Collection boasts all things weird and wonderful in the medical arena and provides insight into things you wouldn't necessarily come across that often. Their current exhibition 'Somewhere in Between' explores sexual health and the senses and offers an illuminating insight into health.
The British Library, whilst being an actual library also holds exhibitions. From Alice in Wonderland to Harry Potter this iconic space invites you into the world of literature, making it accessible to all. Even if there isn't an exhibition on, there's the room of treasures which is one of my all time favorite rooms in London. With original Shakespeare plays and maps of the world, this illuminating room allows the public to see historical artifacts that truly are treasures.

2) Sit in Granary Square
London is full of outdoor communal spaces and Granary Square is Kings Cross' version. With fountains and a warm atmosphere, Granary Square allows you to step back from the hustle and bustle of the busy station and enjoy a cup of coffee in the sunshine. There's also markets that pop up which makes a lovely browse or banging lunch.

3) Drummond Street.
This is where part of the 20 quid comes in but trust me it is so worth it. If you love Indian food and want proper authentic vegetarian Indian cooking then head to Drummond Street. It has a whole load of different Indian restaurants, all serving fantastic tantalising treats which are veggie and gluten free. I would say go at lunch time to catch the buffet deals- I went to one recently that was all you can eat for £7, such a bargain!

4) Drink Shop Do.
This is where the rest of your £20 will go, and possibly some more depending on what you wanna do. Like it says in the name, Drink Shop Do is a mixture of cafe, bar, workshops and food. I went here with my friend Morgan and we were very much there for the wine but they also host knitting classes, bottomless brunch and other craft workshops. It elevates the bar experience and is certainly inclusive to all ages.

These are my favorite things to do in Kings Cross for less than £20 and I would urge anyone to try any of them out! I'm sure I have plenty more to explore in the area but thus far these have been some highlights. Bring a book and kick back in Granary Square or get your head down in the British Library, either way this is a really great area where you can find something enjoyable to do.

5 Cheese Shops Every Cheese-a-holic should head to

As someone who is obsessed with cheese I have spent a fair amount of time sussing out London's most fabulous cheese mongers. There are so many to bring up, but I thought I would go with the five that I return to most frequently. So at number 1: Paxton and Whitfield. Dating back to the 1700s, Paxton and Whitfield is London's oldest cheese shop and stocks amazing cheeses from around the world. I come here annually to buy cheese for Christmas day, and I am unashamed to admit it's probably one of my favorite expeditions of the year. They serve something for everyone from creamy goats cheese to smack you in the face blues. The range is extensive and the staff are happy to help you pick the perfect cheeses to match your pallet and the occasion. Number 2: La Fromagerie. Based in Highbury and Mayfair this cheese shop holds an authentic feel and is the first experience I'd had of a cheese shop. I go to the one in Highbury and Islington as it's local to me and I never...

Recipe of the Week: Taramasalata

As a new feature of my blog I've decided to write a recipe each week. These will vary in terms of if i'm trying to have a healthy week or an indulgent one so you'll certainly get an idea of what's in my food shop- but who doesn't love to be nosey ey? So kick starting the first weekend of 2018 my recipe of the week is homemade taramasalata! Ever since being diagnosed with coeliac I knew this would be the hardest thing to give up. When people ask me what I miss the most they probably expect to hear pizza or fresh bread but that isn't the case for me. Taramasalata is my favorite food ever and since I can't buy it in the shop anymore I've had to learn how to make it myself. For those who aren't familiar with what it is, it's basically a fresh greek dip made from smoked cod roe that is zesty, oniony and really smoky. As my friend Melina describes it it's 'greek caviar but better'; I must admit I agree with her.  The tricky part is...

Porto, Portugal

Ahhh Porto, where to begin? The people were lovely, the place was stunning and the food was exceptional. This was a much needed break after university and the realities of grad life. We started our trip flying with TAP Portugal which is one of the nicest airlines I've ever used.. we got free wine! Once we'd landed we got on the metro to our hotel in Balhou. Porto's metro is like a much nicer tube; it's spacious, air conned and very easy to understand. When coming up the stairs of Balhou station we were greeted by this stunning church (one I'd been hoping to see from my Instagram research) which was breathtaking and set a great tone for the holiday.  Our hotel was alright, but its location was why we chose it; it was nice to be in the heart of Porto and made travelling around so easy. On our first evening we went for a glass of wine (standard) and then a concert of Fado and Flamenco which offered a festive introduction to Portuguese culture. We then wen...
