5 Fabulous Restaurants Which are Suitable for Coeliacs

As a foodie and a coeliac eating out can be difficult. I don't want a replicated cake or a burger without the bun, I want the real deal and sometimes that can be really hard to find. But after three years of being coeliac I've found some pretty great restaurants in London that make the dining experience easy and the coeliac issue seem minor.

So at Number 1: Bird
Sometimes all you want is KFC, and as a coeliac that just isn't possible. However, the wonderful small chain Bird has made gluten free fried chicken that is just like the real thing. All the chicken is gluten free as well as the sides, the sauces and some of the other items on the menu like the halloumi skillet.
I like to order the boneless tenders with buffalo glaze and blue cheese sauce, as well as fries and deep fried pickles.
It's the all American dining experience you crave and the food is incredible.

Number 2: Honest Burger
Like Bird, we all crave the calories from time to time. At Honest Burger they offer a gluten free bun which actually holds together (shock). All the sides are gluten free as well and the staff are incredibly clued in on the seriousness of coeliac disease.
I love this restaurant and when on the move it's a safe option to go for if you want trusted coeliac friendly food.
I would recommend the chicken wings and the classic burger with blue cheese.

Number 3: Beyond Bread
If you have a sweet tooth and miss croissants, banoffee pie, tarts and all baked goods really then Beyond Bread is the place for you. Literally everything in this cafe is gluten free and from what I've tried thus far it's really tasty.
You almost forget that you're in a gluten free restaurant as they have everything you can't normally get on offer.

Number 4: Cote Brasserie
This French chain has a whole gluten free menu separate that is suitable for coeliacs. Once again this normalises the gluten free dining experience and is fuss free. They even have gluten free bread! I would recommend going for the lunch time set menu, you get two courses for £11 and they're that little bit posher than your lunch time meal deal.

Number 5: Tortilla
As someone who LOVES Mexican food, I was delighted when I discovered Tortilla. Again they are incredibly knowledgeable about what's gluten free and there's plenty on offer. I went for the naked burrito which was rice, chicken, refried beans, salsa, guacamole, cheese and sour cream and it was gorgeous. This place is a little cheaper than the others so makes a great lunch spot, my burrito was only a fiver.

There we have it: five fabulous restaurants suitable for coeliacs. I know they're all chains but when on the move it can be really difficult having to think on your feet about where to go. But knowing that there are options dotted about in most places in the city can be really handy, plus they're all delicious.

Recipe of the week: 5 less obvious essential ingredients

5 less obvious essential ingredients Rather than doing a recipe of the week this week I've decided to write a list of five ingredients that I think are absolute essentials and that aren't the classic salt, pepper or garlic! I think when cooking it's good to have an understanding of what flavors you really like and for those who are less confident it can be handy knowing about some other ingredients that are out there. So at number one we have garlic powder In my eyes this is an absolute must for the cupboard. It's cheap and you can buy it in big bags so you'll be stocked up or a while. I love this ingredient as it gives a lovely garlicky depth to sauces, almost a bit like stock but without the saltiness. I typically use this when I make curries, chilli con carne or garlic mayo. Sometimes it's just the thing that's missing. Two:  Cayenne Pepper For all spice lovers, this ingredient is your friend. Make sure you taste as you go along as it pack...
