Swimming Potatoes

So I've written about these before, but they're just that good that I think they deserve their own post rather than being smushed as a side to burgers.
'Swimming Potatoes' or chips as we know them, are a world wide favorite and possibly my favorite way to eat potato.. a bold statement I know.
Anyhoo, I've tried making chips so many times but it was only recently I was shown the best way to. 'Swimming Potatoes' is a Greek translation from my friend Melina and this recipe is from her- so basically this post is a little homage to her and chips.

All you need is: Sunflower oil, potatoes and salt

Method:
Cut the chips into match sticks, put in a deep saucepan and pour over the oil until they are submerged.
Turn on a low heat and leave them to cook for about half an hour. You will want to move them but don't so that they can cook evenly.
After half an hour move them around and cook for a further ten mins.
Spoon them onto kitchen paper, adding salt to each layer.
And wala! that's all there is to it.

These chips really hit the spot if that's your craving and are so versatile. I've had them with burgers, bbqs, on their own or with salad and steak. Whether they're complimenting your meal or shining on their own, they are so delicious.
I'm making them as I write this, cos like I said you've got to leave them for half an hour, and I am so ready to eat them.

Sometimes my friend Melina chucks some onion rings and black olives into the oil and it made them even better. I would definitely say try it. I  also plan on throwing jalapeno peppers in sometime. So while this is a pretty simple recipe, you can get creative with it and add other bits. I'll keep y'all updated on how the jalapenos go and please let me know how they go if you try them yourself!

The Best of Green Lanes

Green Lanes is basically my second home; my three best friends live there so I'm pretty much in the area all the time. It's one of my favorite areas in London and I think if you don't know about it it's time to get to know. Expect to find quirky bars and the best of London's Turkish restaurants in this jam packed place. I've decided to write about my two favorite bars, along with my two favorite restaurants and two of the best green spaces in lovely London.  Kick starting with my three fave bars along Green Lanes... 1) Brouhaha  You gotta laugh at the title but this small bar makes a fantastic cocktail and date spot. It's got a roof terrace which is incredible in summer, however it shuts at 8pm so get there early to enjoy the sunset and a cocktail. They also have a sushi restaurant in the back which is delicious and affordable. I think they've made a genius decision there: cocktails and sushi- what could be better?  2) Bun and Bar This p...

Why clearing out your Facebook is important

Since it's snowing I'm sure we've all had many cosy days in, but the films are running out and we've drunk our body weight in tea so what should we do now? I've taken this opportunity (also known as snow day 4.0) to clear out my Facebook by which I mean deleting a load of people. Sometimes I look at the amount of friends I have on Facebook (1024) and it's like I definitely don't have that many friends in real life. Who are these people and why are they allowed to see all my content so casually? With social media it's so easy to be exposed so I think you need to divide up your platforms and decide what the purpose of each one is. I keep Instagram public but Snapchat and Facebook are definitely more personal and private. But then is my Facebook really private with a good 700 people I probably don't even know on it? This is why clearing out Facebook occasionally is very important. I don't want people who don't know me seeing private photos a...

Chilli Con Carne

I love Chilli Con Carne, for me it's one of the ultimate comfort foods for when I'm feeling blue at Uni. It's really easy to make and doesn't cost too much either and you can get really creative with how you make it. Ingredients:  -1 pack of beef mince meat - 2 white onions - 4 cloves of garlic - 1 carton of passata  - 1 tin of red kidney beans - salt and pepper - garlic powder - smoked paprika - regular paprika - ceyane pepper - cumin powder - one cube of beef stock - red wine  Side options:  - avocado - red onion - fresh coriander - cheddar cheese - sour cream Method:  - Start by chopping your onions and put them in a frying pan on a low heat. Mince the garlic and add in.  - When the onions have softened add the mince meat and put some salt and pepper on it.  - Once the meat is cooked chuck the passata in and start to season with the garlic powder, ceyane pepper, cumin, paprika and a little bit of s...
